With ambiance that oozes hipster cool, the Marcel at Gramercy caters to an international clientele of artists, fashionistas and filmmakers, as well as the leisure traveler in search of something more stylish than the ordinary. The rooms, scattered through the labyrinthine corridors on each floor, are average in size by New York standards. You may find yourself fumbling about in half-darkness since the overhead lighting is irritatingly weak. Not that this matters much, of course: The Marcel's prime location in Manhattan's trendy Gramercy district and its proximity to both Midtown and Downtown will keep you out of the room for most of your stay, anyway.
Pros
Marcel's hip, modern décor are a pleasure to behold and its location makes it a great starting point for exploration of the city.
Cons
The desk staff seems somewhat aloof and inexperienced.
A Guide to the New Hotel Glut
There’s never been more lodging here, and the rooms have never looked this good.
