Profile
The Travel Inn is located on the fringe of Times Square, and, to wit, a stay here is on the fringe of being upscale. The lobby is pleasant enough, with agreeable couches and soft lighting, and the 160 rooms are warm and casual, if completely generic, with wooden desks, armoires, and art prints on the walls. But a handful of amenities set the Travel Inn apart from other budget options: There’s an outdoor pool, and it boasts the city’s only free, on-site hotel parking. Most of the rooms are standard doubles, which makes it attractive to large groups looking to book blocks of rooms without spending a fortune. And though the “travel center” is merely a booth manned by a single staffer, guests can use it to score tickets to Broadway shows and sporting events, or to arrange transportation.
ProsFor large groups coming into Manhattan via bus, the Travel Inn is located only two blocks away from Port Authority.
Cons
Hallways alongside the outdoor pool are dimly lit and can get quite cold during the winter months.
Extra
Doing a reservation search on their website will usually produce cheaper rates than other standard booking options.
