Just four blocks from Central Park and surrounded by numerous Broadway theaters, the Wellington Hotel draws budget-conscious visitors who don’t require much more than a clean room and fresh towels. Though the décor could use an update and the tiny elevators tend to get crowded around check-in, guests keep coming back—which could explain why the less expensive of the 600 guest rooms tend to fill up far in advance. While lacking most high-end amenities, the Wellington does offer high-speed Internet access and some services for business travelers. Best of all, the lobby houses the restaurant Molyvos, a stylishly rustic showcase for chef Jim Botsacos's serious Mediterranean cuisine.
Pros
Convenient location and affordable rates appear to attract a large return clientele.
Cons
Design and amenities leave much to be desired.
