Profile

Located a block from Madison Square Park, this seventeen-story Wyndham boasts not only a sleek design, but a green one. All 124 rooms are lit by energy-efficient lightbulbs, and front-desk employees wear uniforms made of 100 percent recycled materials. But despite its colorfully tiled exterior—not to mention the bright orange planters out front—the décor inside rarely strays from a bland palette of beige, cream, and muted browns. Popular with families, the standard rooms are immaculate but small, with king-size or double beds occupying most of the room space. (The beds, at least, are particularly comfortable because they feature Wyndham’s trademark ultraplush mattresses and pillows.) For a mid-range hotel, there are some surprising touches of luxury, however: In-room coffeemakers brew blends by Wolfgang Puck, bathrooms are fully stocked with Bath & Body Works’ line of True Blue Spa products, and all rooms feature work desks with Herman Miller ergonomic chairs.

Pros

The lush bedding in the clean, bright rooms is particularly comfortable.

Cons
Just two elevators service the hotel’s seventeen floors, which means they can get crowded during busy check-in/out times.
