Well, Renny Harlin is back, and this time, instead of making schlock like Die Hard 2, he’s tried an ostensibly serious movie—a look at Russia’s 2008 invasion of Georgia as seen by journalists, as in political thrillers like Salvador and Under Fire. Unfortunately, the director’s blunt approach to storytelling purges all nuance and intelligence from his film.
