Filmmaker Donal MacIntyre triumphs with this documentary, in which he tails Dominic Noonan, a kindly Tony Soprano figure who serves (and only sometimes protects) the struggling masses in a poor part of Manchester. MacIntyre’s access—and what he does with it—is nothing short of astonishing, as he and his cameras follow Noonan through criminal trials, mob funerals, and many unguarded moments — Sara Cardace
