Dan Klores’s documentary is an exhaustive exhumation of basketball’s desegregation during the civil-rights movement. Using 200 hours of interviews—you’ll recognize big shots like Willis Reed, Earl Monroe, Avery Johnson, Ben Wallace—and old footage, the film captures plenty of discrimination but also shows the pride and enormous influence that leagues at historically black colleges and universities have had on today’s game. Klores introduces his film tonight.
