Sullivan’s homemade experimental animated epic about the interconnected lives of three glum characters in a Rust Belt town mixes different animation styles, sometimes within the same shot, to impressive effect.
Spirited away: Consuming Spirits is visually mesmerizing but not always narratively coherent, and its sprawling, ever-changing story line threatens to lose the viewer about halfway through. Still, it’s a must for any grown-up animation connoisseur.
