Review

This offbeat film depicts a ne’er-do-well single New York father’s attempts to show his two kids a good time before giving them back to their mother. The episodic, well-acted tale has a strange kind of charm—shot in Super 16-mm., it feels like a throwback, both stylistically and narratively—that recalls a fable, rather than the street-level grit to which the film sometimes seems to aspire.
