Review

Cars drive up walls, battles clash on city streets, and a creepy kid with a Crispin Glover haircut augurs the apocalypse in this follow-up to the Russian blockbuster Night Watch. The sequel is more expensive and less coherent, with giant effects and a convoluted plot involving a mystical piece of chalk. All that is not nearly as impressive as director Timur Bekmambetov’s preternatural gift for finding strange faces and odd personas. His cast of freakish actors holds this mess together when the wheels of the plot go popping off.
