Ever wonder about those all-in-one liquid soaps with the weird New Age screeds crammed onto the bottles? Even if you didn’t, the story behind the ¬phenomenon—Emanuel Bronner was a Holocaust survivor who came to the U.S., fled an insane asylum, built a soap empire, and became an icon of the ¬counterculture—makes for a fascinating documentary. While it’s a mostly positive portrait, director Sara Lamm doesn’t whitewash Bronner’s many shortcomings.
