Halloween II.
Don’t laugh (or cry): Rob Zombie is an amazing filmmaker. He’s also an amazingly sadistic one, piling cruelty upon cruelty in House of 1,000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects with the intensity of the industrial-metal “hellbilly” he was. His remake of John Carpenter’s Halloween was a flawed compromise between his own fractured style and themes and Carpenter’s fluid sense of menace. But it was still in a different league from most slasher films. Now, in Halloween II, Zombie is allegedly departing from the Carpenter template with a less tethered tale of the psychological degeneration of Laurie Strode, née Myers (Scout Taylor-Compton). Look for the usual Zombie genre stock company and brace for a wild ride.
