Review

France’s answer to Shakespeare in Love, Laurent Tirard’s sprightly tale imagines the young Molière as a struggling actor-playwright hiding out in a wealthy household, trying to help a rich man woo a snooty young widow—a setup straight out of a Molière play. Light as a feather and full of lively performances, including Romain Duris’s turn as the great writer, it’s an engaging, irreverent trifle, as long as you don’t think about it too hard.
