It’s getting revived in time for Halloween, but the main attraction in Werner Herzog’s 1979 take on the classic Dracula story isn’t cheap thrills but rather the dreamlike, twilit mood the director casts over this deliberately paced, surreal film. As the vampire in question, Klaus Kinski stands out in one of his more controlled performances.
