Writer-director Robert Sarkies expertly creates a quiet, slow-burning sense of dread in his award-winning retelling of the true story of spindly New Zealand loner David Gray, who went on a murderous, guns-blazing rampage against his neighbors in 1990. Modest, believable performances abound, and Matthew Sunderland crackles with volatile energy as the angry cipher lurking in the corners.
