The veteran Italian actor shines as a newly widowed father tormented by both his daughter’s and his own aloofness in the face of loss. This understated, delicately observed film (which Moretti co-wrote) strikes a touching balance between comedy and tragedy, and steers clear of melodrama without sacrificing emotional fireworks.
