Experimental documentarian Morrison is something of a magician when it comes to already-existing footage, and here he uses mostly archival images to create a surprisingly aestheticized vision of the bygone coal-mining culture of Northern England. It’s a lovely, stark film, and it’ll be hard to shake the images of the miners’ faces long after its slight running time has expired.
