A writer looks back on growing up with his hilariously (and proudly) drunk, boorish family in this elegantly shot but strange hybrid of sentimental drama and crude comedy. The tonal deviations don’t always work—broad performances clash with more understated moments—but it’s consistently engaging, and occasionally quite touching.
