Review

Elderly, lonely Danish Vig bequeaths his decaying castle to the Russian Orthodox Church, only to knock heads with the head nun who comes to oversee the transition and restoration. Director Pernille Rose Grønkjær’s documentary could stand to give us some more of the bigger picture—the sad Vig’s motives remain somewhat opaque—but as a portrait of two very different souls who find each other in the most unlikely way, it’s a beautiful, mesmerizing wonder.
