James Tusty and Maureen Castle Tusty’s documentary posits that music—patriotic, hopeful, and revolutionary songs—was the key to the Baltic state of Estonia’s ability to survive both Nazi and Soviet rule, and it makes a compelling case, through interviews and some valuable archival footage. Fairly standard as filmmaking, but its vision of an oppressed nation moved to nonviolent resistance through song is undeniably powerful.
