Volker Schlöndorff’s Oscar-winning epic based on Günter Grass’s symbolic tome about a German boy who refuses to grow up as he experiences the madness of adults both before and during WWII has lost neither its ability to shock and disturb nor its biting, absurdist sense of humor.
