Review
New Yorkers know a thing or two about congestion, but Godard one-ups us all with the infernal traffic jam in Weekend, his 1967 film about a road trip gone wrong. Pauline Kael leagued Godard with Dante and Bosch: “It’s his vision of Hell, and it ranks with the greatest.” Renata Adler called it “an appalling comedy.” Chances are, this high-proof brew of slapstick, porn, and propaganda is still potent enough to make you woozy.
