Profile

You may think you've stepped into a different era as you survey the doe-eyed broads and cigar-chomping gents who occupy the plush red, yellow and turquoise chairs and couches. Yet if the crowd doesn't quite date back to Ol' Blue Eyes' heyday, the buttoned-down bankers and their dressed-up wives are certainly happy enough to get into the spirit. Behind it all is Steve Maglio, a Harlem-born rarity who went from karaoke at 35 to a running gig at the Carnegie Club—where he's headlined since 2004. The dapper performer got hooked on the Chairman of the Board after he heard his songs waft through a window as a schoolboy. Now, he intersperses his own smoothly crooned renditions of "I've Got You Under My Skin" and "The Way You Look Tonight" with musings on his muse's personal life and career. Repeat customers extend to his wife, his brother, and even his Uncle John but when he promises "the best is yet to come"—backed by Stan Rubin's 11-piece, tuxedoed orchestra—you'll probably feel like you're a part of the family.
