Profile

Unlike the Upright Citizens Brigade which stresses the establishment of comic patterns in improvisational comedy, the Peoples Improv Theater doesn't have a unified theory as to what generates laughs. Just  how divergent the approaches can be is made apparent at this weekly showcase in which the staff (Executive Director Ali Farahnakian among them) volley words, ideas and scenarios with zany, and sometimes contradictory, abandon. The clash of styles combined with the inclusion of writing (and not just improv) instructors—with credits at SNL and The Daily Show—ensures an element of unpredicatability that's unique, even for long-form improv.
