Profile

Representing the loopier side of the High Line Festival is Nordine, an eerily deep-voiced performer whose 1957 album, Word Jazz, layered rambling ruminations with jazzy fills from the Fred Katz Group and ended up a beat poetry landmark. Nordine’s musings can be delightfully silly or disturbingly dark. (Take note: This guy served as a vocal coach for The Exorcist and collaborated with Tom Waits.) But his legendary status in Chicago stems from voice-over work for everything from Levi's to Taster's Choise to Kawasaki. His creative pursuits have been more limited since the seventies: a Jerry Garcia collaboration here, an NPR appearance there, and now this unexpected gig at the Kitchen.
