Their name screams heavy metal, but amped-up Brooklyn foursome Professor Murder would rather boogie than head-bang as the fresh-faced dance-punk act, still buzzing off their Professor Murder Rides the Subway E.P., puts the beat and the bass guitar out front. Mix in brash keys, cowbells, and crisp vocals, and the result is trippy post-punk tunes curiously indebted to reggae, hip-hop, and funk. The emphasis is on deep-groove jams, not lyrical depth. It’s a musical plea difficult to resist. Part of the CMJ Music Marathon.
