Profile

The National’s six-show run at the Beacon Theater stretches from the 12th to the 17th, with a terrific clutch of opening guests—singer-songwriter Sharon van Etten, modernclassical quartet So Percussion, fascinating folk from My Brightest Diamond. But the band’s fans might especially take to the night with Wye Oak, a Baltimore duo whose album Civilian—full of swirls of noise, stark melodies, and heavy feelings—offered some of the best indie rock of the year.
