A big corporate radio-concert like the Z100 Jingle Ball is great for more than just its overstuffed pop confections; the shrewd know them as excellent snapshots of tomorrow’s pop-culture detritus. This year’s batch—including Fall Out Boy, Alicia Keys, Timbaland, and Avril Lavigne—seems mostly immune to irrelevancy. But dig deeper for those soon to join the likes of Ryan Cabrera (Jingle Ball vet, 2004) and Jason Mraz (2003) in music history’s discount bin. Will it be emo upstarts Boys Like Girls?
