Sassafras Bitters

Ingredients

1 750 ml bottle of white whiskey (or any neutral grain spirit)

3 vanilla beans, split

2 star anise pods, toasted

3 cloves, toasted

1 teaspoon anise seeds, toasted

2 black cardamon, toasted

2 teaspoons wormwood

10 black peppercorns, toasted

1 teaspoon oak, shredded

1 teaspoon dry caramel

1/2 ounce sassafras root extract

3 cups sassafras root

Instructions

Combine all ingredients in a glass jar.  Let macerate for 2 weeks, agitating once per week. Strain and enjoy. (Published 2013)
