The tapas and main dishes at this hip, earthy Spanish joint may be lackluster, like the black ink seafood paella, (which sounds more imaginative than it tastes), but 1492 does have its strengths. Mainly, they lie in the bar/restaurant’s reliable capacity as a chilled out destination to enjoy a glass of port or good Spanish wine. The warm, deliciously rustic interior, decked out in knotty woods with a decent view of Clinton Street passersby, encourages loitering. But the killer feature is the hidden outdoor seating area that wraps around the back of the restaurant, joining up with that patio of Crudo, the restaurant next door.
