Outside, overhead, one large red mid-century retro logo advertises Coca-Cola while big, plastic, yellow letters spell out "Donuts, Coffee, Shop." Yet, contrary to evidence, this sunset orange mini-diner opened in 1975 and the shelves near the window are sparsely stocked with pastries, jelly-filled or otherwise. This sliver of a luncheonette nevertheless successfully banks on nostalgia. Credit the red leather stools at the faux marble counter (literally, the only place to sit), the streamlined menu of burgers and eggs, and the mom-and-pop atmosphere generated by owner Chris--manning the grill in his red-striped shirt—and his sister Effie who'll take your order. Homey touches such as a lacquered Last Supper, a Cyrillic poster for Greek soccer and a trail of fake pink flowers over the backlit menu above further the feeling of intimacy in a place that's short on personal space to start with.
