The mobs at weekend brunch—a standard $13.50 eggs-coffee-mimosa troika—can be maddening, but 7A really hits its stride around 2 a.m., serving round-the-clock comfort food that’s a notch up from your average diner. Burgers, nachos, pastas—they are what they are, which is pretty yummy, especially if you’ve spent the night wandering East Village watering holes and want to fill up cheaply while observing the antics of your fellow bar-hoppers parading through the picture windows. Need a companion in the wee hours? Ignore the tipsy tarts outside, and have the French apple one with vanilla ice cream instead. — Matt Gross

get the Garden salad with carrot dressing and a side of fries

7A has some of the best fries in the city and served with a huge bowl of salad you have a cheap dinner fit for a king. The salads are not sparing on any ingredients including avacados and fresh vegetables. Their main courses are not that great, but their sandwiches and eggs are fantastic value. If you are a vegetarian, the veggie sausages in the morning are the best.
