Not to be confused with the S. Martinelli & Co. family, the brothers Martignetti, Tom and Anthony, run Martignetti Liquors, the Houston Street nightclub that caters to a crowd that favors $5 bottles of Bud over apple juice, every time. In October 2006, the big-boned brothers plunged headfirst into the restaurant business with Bar Martignetti. Why? Because they like to eat out a lot, and, truth be told, they are not impressed with what's already out there to eat. "The art of the restaurant has been lost to big PR people and people who want to make a quick buck," explains Tom. "Our restaurant is definitely going to be less glamorous; we're not going to have someone with a list harass you. Personality-wise, our model is Odeon."

Take the attitude and get out of town

I have a girlfriend in town visiting, and decided to take her to see the redecorated & just reopened downstairs on a Thursday night. Despite being two attractive 20-something females, the two bouncers (one skinny dude acting macho, another larger dude who actually has a sweet heart) hassled us at the door. Already embarrassed about the issue of getting in the door, I walked downstairs and was horrified at the new space. It's much smaller (despite having more seating, as I was told), much tackier and makes you feel like you are on a high gone wrong. We walked into the bustling crowd of 20 people or so (at midnight on a Thursday) and immediately walked out it was such a horrible experience. I was truly embarrassed that I brought my friend there. Do not go. The wanna-be club should have kept the library charm.

Boring

Although the atmosphere can be nice in the daytime, the food is quite basic and non-inventive, and consequently, way overpriced. The greasy-looking owner behaved like a real jackass - rude to his staff as well as customers. The "bouncers" do not let anyone in on busy nights who isn't chic enough (or doesn't have breasts), which is a shame because the place could use some personality and uniqueness.
