Profile
Chef Missy Robbins from Chicago’s Spiaggia now helms the Modern Italian restaurant originally opened by original chef and Boulud alum Andrew Carmellini.
I took a client to dinner here and I regret my choice of restaurant. The people are nice and the restaurant has a modern flair to it without being cold. Our appetizers were awful. I had a mushroom dish that was chewy, looked slapdash and maybe totaled a single mushroom stem - it was that spartan. A chicken entree was so undercooked that it wasn't edible. My client's ricotta was swimming in olive oil and blobs of cheese - she opted to not have an entree. We were so hungry, we went for a burger across the street at the Shake Shack. There are so many restaurants in the city that try harder and are better values.
Although the wines are up to $ 7,500 more than 50% are under $ 90. One has not to spend excessively to enjoy quality like Barolo or Barbera del Monferrato. For my Branzino al vapore (steamed striped bass with tuscan kale, sunchokes and truffles) I prefer instead a Gavi di Gavi (Volpi) and can enjoy him even when the chocolate custard with Sicilian pistachios and sea salt arrives.
