Didier Virot gave up the prestige of an executive-chef post at Jean Georges to open the ill-fated Virot at the Dylan Hotel. Now he's followed in the pioneering Noza (north of Zabar's) footsteps of Tom Valenti, bringing sophisticated French fare four blocks north of Valenti's Ouest. The space, multiple levels plus terrace dinning give this deluxe French a prominent position in the Upper Westside. Either the ala Carte menu or the prix fix menus provide interesting combinations. The service is uneven and the overall experience is marginal Lastly the wine list is over priced by a factor of 2.

Make those reservations early, it worth it. The food is interesting, our waiter was great, the sommelier recommended a reasonably priced wine, the upstairs room is lovely. So what's wrong? The manager at the reservations desk was rude and obnoxious. Get rid of him and the experience is worth the price.
