From the folks at 71 Clinton Fresh Food: think 'ino meets Ratners, crossed with a little Chicama and a clever small-plates menu with nods toward the neighborhood and its supplierseverything artfully presented with a dollop of tomato marmalade here, a dab of salsa rosado there. The slider comprises tender marinated steak, creamy pickle relish, and a bialy, squeezed into a sandwich toaster. There's also the eclectic wine list, the refreshing house cocktails, the relaxed, hospitable vibe, and the fact that only a few dishes (the $12-$14 "bigger hot plates") cost more than $8.

The place may be small and cramped and the tables wobbly, but the food is excellent and dim lighting romantic. I have had the nachos, slider, and sloppy joe and could not have been happier with how they tasted. For the price, they're pretty decent eats. And my bellini martini hit the spot. It's a great place for a casual dinner with a friend. The waitstaff is nice, but flighty. Would definitely recommend going there for a cheap, unique sandwich.

Cheap = small portions

NYC may be known for small portions, but most "Cheap Eats" lists tend to be of the mom-n-pop variety of good, filling fare. The $8 sandwiches are tasty, and interesting, but are too small to make a plate up. For the same $ go to Mama's Food Shop. Now, that is cheap! and worth it!
