You know the boys who spent their teen years holed up in the basement with a can of Coke and a Commodore 64? Alchemy 106 is what happened to them once they grew up and started drinking coffee. The ground floor of this two-tiered cyber café offers muffins, sandwiches on Eli Zabar's bread, and caffeinated drinks that sound like science experiments. The surprisingly drinkable Elvis combines espresso with peanut butter, honey and banana, and the Lemon Meringue mixes espresso with lemon and marshmallow fluff. Buy a $3 coffee drink (even a plain old cappuccino) and get a half-hour of free Internet usage or bring your own laptop for complimentary Wi-Fi access. The upstairs gaming room is outfitted with cheap pleather couches that may remind you of your youth. However the large-screen TVs and state-of-the-art gaming systems are decidedly 21st century.

For $20, you get a free coffee drink and three hours of gaming, or, if it's not crowded, unlimited joystick time. $25 buys you a membership that includes eight hours of gaming, with subsequent hours discounted to $5 each.
