You'd never know it from those Upper East Side trattorias whose blandly unchallenging menus probably originate from one communal kitchen under Third Avenue, but clean, simple Italian fare needn't be boring. Arezzo proves how satisfying familiar can be. The room is spartan, but let steaming plates of pea-flavored cavatelli in a hot-sweet sausage ragu and "focaccina" halved and smeared with Robiola cheese cloud your vision. — Rob Patronite and Robin Raisfeld

I have been to Arezzo about 8 times over the past few years and the experience has always been amazing. It is never crowded because I usually arrive late in the lunch hour. The food is delicious and the service is prompt and professional. I always get the price-fix lunch. It is an excellent value and it is available year round.
PR girls, who seem to rule New York these days, advise clients to present a consistent, quality image. And without the PR benefit of a celebrity sit-down by Paris Hilton or Gillian Hearst, Arezzo succeeds because of an understated elegance that permeates its decor, its menu and its food.
You will first notice the restaurant's classic beauty. The ceiling is lined with wood panels, tables are lit by hanging tortoise-shell lamps, and a wood oven in the back corner emulates warmth. If you are anything like me, the second thing you will notice is the cleanliness of the bathroom and the serene image of colorful stones greeting water from the faucet.
Next you will see that the menu likely includes all of your favorite dishes, from calamari to filet mignon to carpaccio to gnocchi. Choosing what to eat is almost as tough as the temptation to keep this restaurant a secret.
The food, prepared by Piemonte-born chef Margherita Aloi, is uniformly excellent. Each dish was served with herbs laced along the plates, to complete the image of elegance.
People who dream about opening a restaurant should hope it turns out like Arezzo.
