Everyone at Frank Pellegrino Jr.’s Baldoria toils to make sure customers stay happy enough to sing along with Jimmy Roselli on the jukebox. There’s luscious veal scallopine, aromatic spaghetti with clams, a raw bar upstairs, and best of all, 200 seats. So, if you still can’t get into Rao’s—Junior’s father’s legendary celebrity hangout—now you don’t have to. — Rob Patronite and Robin Raisfeld

I was born and raised in Manhattan, and I am 1/2 Italian. I've been to many Italian restaurants in New York City, and this is one of the best. My wife and I very much enjoy entertaining guests from out of town here, as the food is superior, and difficult to come by ANYWHERE else,
I've read some of the negative comments here, and it makes me wonder if the people making these comments may not be affiliated with Baldoria's direct competition in NYC. I say because recently, my wife and I went to Patsy's on 58th Street-- another legendary Italian restaurant in the city-- and, although we enjoyed the food, we agreed that Baldoria's is just a tad better than Patsy's.
If you go, I highly suggest the Beet Salad (my wife's fave), and the Caesar Salad is my favorite of their salads. Their veal is wonderful. All of their chicken dishes are amazing. Anything with red sauce (real Italians from NYC call it "gravy") is delicious.
You will NEVER be disappointed when you visit this restaurant.
It's great food, and (best of all) you can get a table there !!
I have the highest respect for Frank Pellegrino (Sr.) and if the opportunity should ever pass my way again, I will gladly do whatever it takes to eat at Rao's. In the meantime, though, I can get a table at Baldoria and thoroughly enjoy the wonderful food, feeling, service, and wine of Frank Pellegrino (Jr.). The recipe's are very similar. The ambiance is all it's own. And this is one fine midtown Italian restaurant.
Don't hesitate. Go. Enjoy.
