Profile

First there was Chinoiserie, then came Sciuscia. Now Barna has moved into Hotel Giraffe’s subterranean space, with Spanish-inspired fare like shellfish paella and tuna-stuffed piquillo peppers, and sonhos, or Portuguese-style doughnuts with chocolate dipping sauce, for dessert.

Spanish inspired but not really. More of a trying-to-be-trendy hotspot. Some tapa/appetizers seem authentic and are pretty good, such as beef brochette with bacon and chorizo sauteed in sherry. Other items like lamb ribs were off the bone tender but way too sauced - we couldn't tell it was lamb. Wine list has good selection of Spanish wines and priced accordingly. We were literally the only ones there at 7:30pm, which felt odd. Space is pleasant, clean and new but nothing special. Music was circa 1980 and kept switching mid-tune as if changing the station on the radio. Service was friendly and accomodating, of course, we were the only customers. Felt like a hotel restaurant deep in eastern Europe.
