Named for a wine region in Northern Italy, this Soho staple features quaint al fresco dining in a charming back garden and spacious seating in the main room. The West Broadway weary slip in off the street for a feast of Italian standards like pounded and breaded veal chop topped with fresh tomato and arugula. Popular with gallery combers and shoppers, Barolo doesn’t skimp on portions, and its expansive wine list keeps the moneyed-and-tanned international tourist set coming back for more. — Andy Bailey

Civilized atmosphere, great food and wine. Been here before, but forgot how pleasant the experience was. I need to go more often. The staff and service were great. It was a weeknight during a recession, of course, so the place was not fully booked. We ate in the lovely tree-lit garden, which is such a nice spot in the middle of Manhattan. It's always a pleasure when it's not pouring, snowing or humid in NYC. It feels like you're dining in a secret, special place.
The food was excellent. Not too much "drama". Just subtle flavors of rosemary, thyme, sage, butter, wine, etc. The wine list was even better. Once I spilled the beans that I was a humble "peasant" and would not be ordering a bottle of wine that was "perfect" to accompany my meal (and under $50 bucks), our waiter laughed and suggested an excellent wine within our budget.
Food, atmosphere and service was excellent. Wine list incredible. Always a pleasure to return.
Go there if you like good food, good wine and don't care about the "drama" of celebrity. Of course, you never know who will show up...
Other than being outside on this beautiful week of pre-fall NYC weather, my dining experience at Barolo was horrendous. I have had better italian for an 1/8th of the price. They must be kidding with that pricing. I hate to waste a meal in NYC ever and this was a complete waste of my time and well earned money.
