Profile

In a subterranean space on a particularly seedy corner of Fulton Street, Bennie’s Thai Café is easy to miss. Nevertheless, during lunch hour, the place is routinely packed with financial workers, although most menu offerings are serviceable at best. Steamed dumplings prove dense and pasty, and Pad See-Eiw is woefully bland. As for curries, the Gang Gar-Ree yellow curry made with coconut milk has depth but lacks kick. The unlikely star of the menu is the chicken Pad Thai; the sauce is sweet and tangy, and a wealth of bean sprouts, peanuts, and carrots adds a fresh crunch.
