With a chorus of raves drawing crowds for sublime Turkish meze at Beyoglu, its creator, the irascible Orhan Yegen, disappeared. But his amiable crew and enticing menu remain, having been relocated to the ground floor. So far, fans are finding the same sprightly tarama, hummus, and eggplant purée, along with the meaty doner kebab and daily seafood specials—braised tuna or striped bass grilled whole with herbs and a last-minute olive-oil drizzle. — Rob Patronite and Robin Raisfeld

We had reservations for fifteen for a farewell dinner for colleagues at Fortune Magazine. Two of our party were ill and couldn't make it, but the restaurant charged us for fifteen anyway and refused to bend.
The appetizers were OK but nothing special. The main courses were bland: dry meat with no particular flavor. The service was OK.
The manager was a sleazeball.
The prices were way too high for a mediocre meal: they came to $80 per person!
We were conned. They gave us the business, so we won't be giving them ours again.
I'm surprised at all of the awful reviews for Beyoglu below! I mean, it's not perfect, but my husband and I LOVE this place. We've taken friends, returned with parents, and everybody loves it every time. We get the vegetarian platter to split for weeknight takeout and when we go with friends we usually split that, the Beyoglu salad, whatever special appetizer and special meat dish. Love the calamari too. There is always plenty of food and is SO GOOD! And doesn't break the bank. The waiters are good-humored and funny. Sometimes rushed, but it's always packed so I can't blame them. Can't recommend this place more for the price and the food.
