Steakhouses, as a rule, provide conservative pleasures. You go to be impressed rather than surprised. And the veterans behind Blair Perrone know the thing that most impresses New Yorkers is real estate. The restaurant is one massive chunk of property, and it's designed to let you know it. The cavernous space is entirely done up in subdued chocolate tones, allowing you to marvel at the 20-foot high ceilings and through panoramic windows--which unfortunately look out on a bleak stretch of Second Avenue which can make it feel as though you're visiting a gentleman's club in an automobile showroom. Owners Charlie Blair and Joe Perrone were formerly at the Luger's spinoff MarkJoseph, and like others before them, have reproduced the menu of the Brooklyn institution more or less verbatim: the bacon appetizer, the salad of behemoth tomatoes and onions, the platter of hash browns, and of course the high-heat-charred, pre-sliced porterhouse. Basically, this dining experience meets the requirements of the genre: the familiar done on a grand scale.
Party PlanningA private tasting room is available for groups of 30-50.
