Profile

The newest outlet of Laurent Tourondel’s booming BLT franchise is a doppelgänger of BLT Steak, on 57th Street. The sleek zebrawood tables are the same as the ones uptown, as are the large circular lamp shades. But at BLT Prime, the proprietors have added a glass meat locker. The meal proceeds according to the expansive, expensive, and by-now-familiar BLT formula. If you have a taste for beef, lots of sauces (about eight), and endless varieties of potato (nine), this is not a bad thing. The simple roasted beets are recommended as is the house “BLT”: ciabatta layered with tomatoes, bacon bits, thin slices of American Kobe-beef skirt steak, and foie gras. The top-dollar steaks are fine (the ten-ounce American Kobe rib eye costs $92), though a version of barbecued beef brisket seemed way too sweet, as if it had been smothered in marmalade.

Extra

Laurent Tourondel is a genius with fish, but the seafood here is uninspired. If you tire of beef, order the excellent roast chicken.

I've actually been to both BLT Steak and Prime. I would have to say that Prime overall offered the better experience. The menu was nearly identical at both, same quality meal at both. The prime dining space, however, is much...Read More
