This converted townhouse exudes a boisterous energy reminiscent of the French Quarter during Mardi Gras. The space has a plantation-as-imagined-by-Disneyworld feel, with wrought iron gas lamps, wooden carvings of ship bows, and a stuffed alligator mounted above a 35-foot-long bar. There’s also plenty of seating in the cacophonous two-level dining room and on the ground-floor front patio. The Creole menu includes chicken and andouille sausage in a tasty garlicky gravy, but the dish needs more rice and cooking-time to be a true etouffee. Desserts, however, beautifully balance salty and sweet; caramel-spiked pecan pie has depth of flavor while remaining light. For drinks, the Voodoo Lounge bar area, named for its eerie portrait of notorious witch queen Marie Laveau, glows with candlelight that flickers across the leather and velour couches.
All-American BourbonThe all-American bourbon list, a particularly respectable collection numbering 38, includes no whiskey younger than four years of age and little-seen brands like Rebel Yell, Basil Hayden and Elmer T. Lee.
