In the tradition of many next-generation steak joints around the city, Josh Capon’s glitzy downtown beef palace offers something for everyone, including strips of “zucchini carpaccio” for vegetarians, an enticing, many-layered duck lasagna, and one of the city’s better cheeseburgers for the legions of burger loons who roam the avenues these days. But Capon is one of New York’s most accomplished meat cooks, and specialties here remain the ageless steakhouse favorites — the bone-in rib eye, the Colorado lamb chops, the excellent prime New York strip topped with roasted shallots — which in variety, quality, and, yes, even price, are hard to beat.
