Under Rick Moonen's culinary supervision, the restaurant at the Library Hotel has become part tapas bar, part open-air osteria, with an appealing menu of pastas, and snacky small plates. Mix and match the bracingly dressed arugula-and-endive salad with a trio of oil-drizzled grilled sardines, each paired with a matching wine. — Rob Patronite and Robin Raisfeld
The key at this mid-town hotel Italian is the Small Plates vs. the Large Plates. Sample a selection of the various well prepared appetizer sized dishes, and perhaps the pastas, for a wonderful lunch or light dinner. The staff tries hard and the mood is relaxed and honest in this large open room. Tables can be a little too tight when the weather is not cooperative.
I went to this place when it first opened, it may not have even been called Branzini then and it was a poor excuse for bar food. Now, it is a really lovely spot to go for a business lunch or after work bite. I wouldnt go out of my way to go there on my free time, but as for midtown food, it is quite good. We tried everything from the lobster bisque to the Greek Salad and it all checked out. Have you ever had a waiter who is simply doe eyed and kind of stupid-you ask them one question about the menu and they are completely dumbfounded? That was our man today at lunch, but he was a sweetheart and the food was good so it was forgiven. It is a bit overpriced but since this is a business lunch type place, it is to be expected.
