New owners have rechristened the defunct Brooklyn Burger Bar as Brooklyn Flipsters, and this iteration is a marked improvement over the last place. The griddle turns out reliable burgers, fries, chicken tenders, and hot dogs. The basement joint has dark-wood tables, a handsome tin ceiling, a full bar, and seven flat-screen TVs tuned in to sports. With fourteen burger varieties, it’s wise to err on the side of real meat, especially the hefty patty of rich, velvety Kobe beef and the tender and juicy free-range New Zealand lamb burger. The meat substitutes are ho-hum, as evidenced by a bland Portobello mushroom cap breaded to little effect, and an overly fishy salmon patty. Tots tend toward baskets of perfectly crisp chicken fingers and frothy, malted milkshakes.
Recommended DishesKobe burger, $13; lamb burger, $11; vanilla milkshake, $6
