Profile

Brooklyn Public House’s self-billing as a gastropub might be misleading for those expecting something along the lines of the Spotted Pig. The bar does serve a modest menu—featuring mussels, sirloin steak, and calamari alongside your basic bangers n' mash, wings, and nachos—but in vibe and décor, it comes off much more like a particularly authentic Irish pub. That’s partially owing to the fact that, like bars in Ireland, the draft beers at BPH are blended with nitrogen, which creates a heartier head. There’s an impressive tap list, including international rarities like La Chouffe and Weinenstephen, alongside an equally lengthy bottle selection, which ranges from standard light beers to the likes of Rogue Dead Guy Ale. The setup of the space features a long bar up front leading to a roomy back dining area; in the warmer months, outdoor tables provide a good view of Dekalb Avenue’s foot traffic.
